چکیده

A VLA survey of nearby LINER galaxies at 15 GHz has revealed the presence of a compact radio core in many sources. The cores seem to be correlated with the optical activity. Follow-up VLBA observations of the ten brightest sources confirm that these cores have brightness temperatures> 10 Kelvin, thus confirming their AGN nature. The two brightest radio sources show extended jet-like structures and the flat spectral indices of all cores also suggest a jet nature rather than emission from an ADAF.

Jets in AGN – New Results from HST and VLA

This paper summarizes some of our recent projects which try to illuminate the nature and importance of jets associated with active nuclei and compact objects. After a short introduction on jets in radio galaxies and radio loud quasars the paper focuses on jets in other source types, such as radio-quiet quasars, Seyfert and LINER galaxies, and stellar mass black holes. Radio observations of quas...

Relativistic Jets in Radio-Weak Quasars and LINER Galaxies

We discuss radio observations of a sample of radio-weak and radio-intermediate quasars which demonstrate that – just like their radio-loud counterparts – radioweak quasars too have relativistic jets in their nuclei. Moreover, a VLA survey of nearby LINER galaxies reveals a relatively large number of flat-spectrum radio cores. It is suggested that those cores are also best explained by moderatel...

Radio Cores in Low-Luminosity AGN: ADAFs or Jets?

We have surveyed two large samples of nearby low-luminosity AGN with the VLA to search for flat-spectrum radio cores, similar to Sgr A* in the Galactic Center. Roughly one third of all galaxies are detected (roughly one half if HII transition objects are excluded from the sample), many of which have compact radio cores. Follow-up observations with the VLBA have confirmed that these cores are no...

Compact Radio Cores in the Galactic Center and Elsewhere

Compact radio cores are not only common in radio galaxies and quasars but also in many nearby galaxies with low-active, supermas-sive black holes. One famous example is the Galactic Center source Sgr A*. Recent studies of proper motions and radial velocities of stars in the inner parsec of the Galaxy convincingly demonstrate the presence of a compact dark mass of 2.5 · 10 6 M ⊙ in the nucleus o...
